Long term adverse effects on endocrine
system related to cancer treatment Authors: Mahuad Carolina V, Vicente Á, Aizpurua F, Casali C,
Cicco J A, Zerga M, Garate G M Abstract: Late endocrine adverse effects of treatment are frequent
in survivors of cancer. Considering the long
life expectancy among the pediatric population,
these events are specially relevant. The exposition
to gonadotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy are
the main causes of fertility impairment. We describe
the long term effects over thyroides, hypofisis, metabolic
syndrome, the changes in body fat distribution,
and finally, fertility preservation in women and
males exposed to cancer treatment. Key words: cancer, endocrine late effects., chemotherapy,
radiation therapy, fertility preservation,
premature ovarian failure, cryopreservation Pages : |
